Celebration Day

Saturday 16 May 2009, Salisbury Cathedral

RSCM Celebration Days are held annually at cathedrals in the UK, and are splendid occasions when RSCM Honorary Awards are presented during the course of a specially designed service. The 2009 event will take place in Salisbury Cathedral on Saturday May 16, with rehearsals starting at 2.30pm and the service at 5.30pm.

RSCM affiliates who are interested in participating in the massed choir should email voluntary(at)rscm.com before the end of September 2008 with the following information:

Name of affiliated choir
Name and contact details (email, telephone and address) of one person from the choir
Number of singers who may be interested in participating, together with which voice part they sing:
Trebles (boys and girls) / Sopranos / Altos (men or women) / Tenors / Basses

You will appreciate that we may need to restrict the numbers of those attending in order to accommodate a manageable choir in the comparatively narrow nave of Salisbury Cathedral. Your expression of interest at this time does not guarantee a place, but we will endeavour to include representatives from as many RSCM-affiliated choirs as possible.

In October 2008 we shall begin making formal approaches to selected choirs in the region to participate in this service. The RSCM's Midlands and South West Cathedral Singers and Salisbury Cathedral Choir will take part, and the massed choir will be conducted by David Ogden.

Participating singers will need to purchase a specially prepared booklet (which will cost no more than £5), and learn all the music in advance, as rehearsal time on the day is limited. Music will be available in February 2009 from Music Direct, 0845 021 7726, or through the RSCM online shop.

Please note that all young people attending Celebration Day must be under the care of an adult from their church/choir during the day. Choir trainers are reminded to obtain parental permission in writing from parents/guardians of all participants under 18 years old. Our recommended parental consent form is available to download, which should be retained by your choir trainer after completion.

Remember to let us have a response before the end of September 2008. All emails will be acknowledged - if you do not receive an acknowledgement, please contact us to ensure we have received your message.
